This is a coincidence. Just recently I remember telling a friend to do Yoga in the toilet if he didn’t find a better spot at home! What do you know, students at Arizona State University's College of Design led by faculty members John Takamura and Dosun Shin have come up with a "transgenerational toilet design concept" called Go With the Flo. The Flo toilet is an ergonomic and designers say that using the Flo toilet is akin to yoga - by building and strengthening abdominal and back muscles. Only one-half to one gallon of water is used for flushing and The Flo reuses water from hand washing. To flush water from the tanks to the toilet, the Flo employs an electromagnetic ball valve. Go With the Flo also is free of mechanical parts. The toilet is fully self-sustaining and independent of electric power.

Spray Paint Thaw
Hooray! The temperatures here have finally reached near the 40's! And even though the spray paint can directions say ideal painting temps are 50-70 degrees, I ran outside with a thrift project in one hand and shaking a paint can in the other. The project I chose was a large metal tray that had an original finish of a mix of greens, browns, and rust. It's a subtle change but I think it looks much nicer painted metallic charcoal with the details highlighted using silver Rub n' Buff.It looks great sitting on my kitchen table corralling all of the pretties I like to keep there. I try to have a candlelight dinner whenever we eat at the table---even though my boys question why. Isn't it a momma's job to insert a few feminine details into the lives of her men? Besides, it makes me happy to be surrounded by beautiful things and if momma's happy then everybody's happy, right? And another thing that makes me happy is to be able to use my favorite makeover tool again!
Upholstered Headboard
We've been working on a small project with a very small budget. Mind you, we're really not the decorate-on-a dime kinda people. Those decorating shows that teach you how to make a volleyball net out of the plastic canholders? Or ottoman out of empty Coke bottles? No thanks. However, there are ways to make your house look nice on a budget, and having a colorful, pretty headboard for your bed is one of them. It's really pretty when you choose a striking fabric that's colorful and fun. The headboards cost about $500-600 to make, and usually you can have a good local, upholsterer make it for you.
If you are looking for headboard models, here are some good ones from Edward Ferrell. You can go to the site and download a tearsheet (you can order from them too, but it's kinda expensive).
Bring this to your favorite upholsterer along with your favorite fabric and voila...
Candles and Pantries
do you get frustrated?Does your candle sit a little skiwampus in your hurricane?
Simply pull out sacks of rice, beans or peas.Dump the dry food goods into the candle holders
and watch your frustration melt away.
I like to use rice, green or yellow split peas,
black, white or kidney beans.I've used epsom salt too.
If you're a coffee drinker you can use coffee beans.
There are several frugal food choices for fillers
right in your own kitchen.
Which ones have you used?
