My dollar store has had these small faux ferns for a few months now.
I've looked at them a few times and talked myself out of buying them. Then the other day, being desperate for anything that reminds me of spring, I finally gave in. At home I promptly pulled it out of it's original container, plopped it in a clay pot and surrounded it with moss.
I think it it's almost as good as these but a whole lot cheaper! Have you found anything wonderful at the Dollar Store recently?
Dollar Store Delight
Thrift Store Scrolls
scroll-y work of art.
It was one of those thrift finds thatone picks up,
looks at with curiosity,
tries to figure out whatever could be done with said item,
puts it back,
and then repeats the process
several times
until
inspiration finally hits,
curiosity is resolved
and the item is purchased.
Next I found a font on the computer that I liked and printed the word "Welcome." I rubbed the backside of the paper with chalk so that I could transfer the image onto the MDF by tracing over the text.
I painted the letters---three coats were needed in order to cover the deep red base coat.
A couple of wood rosettes were added to each end of the board.
Then two small holes were drilled to thread wire through in order to attach the board to the scroll.
Sometimes it pays to pick up a curious thrift store item several times until inspiration hits!Ending With A Buy
What better way to end the year than with a thrift store makeover?
If you don't know by now, there are certain groups of items that I have a hard time resisting when I thrift store shop. I love white plates and vases, bowls, old glassware, clocks, metalware, and baskets. So when I saw this little item it caught my eye.
How could I pass up such an interesting metal basket? Look at those little details on the corners! I'm not sure what they were meant for, but I immediately had an idea for what I would do.
As much as I loved the original galvanized metal finish, there were spots of rust that didn't look very pretty. So out came the black spray paint. Yes, I still manage to do a little spraying even with snow outside!
Next, I took a trip to a shop that sells chemistry supplies (another fun place to shop!) and I purchased some test tubes for fifty cents a piece. I was so excited when I found out they fit perfectly into those corner pockets.
Now I have an unusual, yet very pretty way to serve dishes at my holiday buffet!
A HAPPY, HEALTHY AND SAFE
NEW YEAR!!!
Thank you SO MUCH for your friendship!

with a little love,
someone's trash is now your treasure?
Outside of the Cone
If you saw this three foot tall vine covered cone selling for three dollars at the thrift store, would you buy it?
Would you take it home and wind tiny lights around it and use it as a rustic Christmas tree?
Or would you turn it upside-down, plop in a bunch of fake fall mums you had lying around, and hang it on your front door?
